exhaust sound

Postby dazeaway » Thu Mar 31, 2016 7:45 am

Hello All,

I am looking to spend some money on something I don't need, a new sound for my 550. I currently am running a standard exhaust, like the one you can get online from cb performance. It has the Magnaflow mufflers.

Well I dont like the sound really and wanted more of a Vroomf sound. (if that makes sense). Also the drone during long rides can be a bit much I would prefer a quieter sound. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Bob

I'd suggest you go to a decent muffler dealer in your area and tell them what you want to do, If they have a muffler that meets your needs, they can just cut out the old mufflers and weld in 2 new mufflers saving you quite a bit of money. I've always wondered what Flowmasters would sound like on a VW engine??

Thanks Larry,
I was going to try exactly that but was hoping to have a place to start in advance. Maybe I should just go to the showroom and do my best sound impressions, (I'll try not to get any spit on them) Vroom, Vrooooom vroom

You get the idea.
But in all seriousness, they might be able to help decipher

Just bite the bullet and buy one of Beck's stainless 4/2/1 units. It sounds absolutely awesome.

FYI, Greg at Vintage designed the 4/2/1 system about 13 years ago. Another guy who was previously on this board and I had the exhaust system installed at Greg's shop at the same time and we were probably the 1st and 2nd customers to have them installed on a Beck. CB and several other companies copied his design. He worked with Magnaflow to create that exhaust system. Personally I liked the sound that it produced.

Personally, if I were replacing an expensive Magnaflow exhaust system with something else, the ultimate upgrade would be Cary's 4/4/1 Sebring as my ONLY 1st choice for a spyder exhaust. Although, it is probably not on the whisper-ish side of Vroooooom you are looking for. But then, for me getting enough Vroooooom is like getting enough cow bell.

I have Greg's system on my Vintage and it sounds great. Not too loud and idle or part throttle, great at wide open.

I May try to take a video of mine so I can post the "sound" For me it is just too loud.

Turns heads but I like to be stealthy.

I Have to spend money on a new exhaust. The new/old one is 1 1/2 pipe with the 421 with magnaflo Headers . Looks like a local muffler shop did it . The pipe for the second cylinder is crushed in half between the engine and Frame crossbar . When you buy a car 90% done you have too minus another 40% too do it over again.
So I want to get a 1 5/8 Sebring Exhaust love the sound of the exhaust on the video with the 356..
My Mechanic wants a true 4 into 1 system in S.S..Cant find one heard the old Becks had them but not in S.S..
Plus it would be nice to have S.S.being in Hawaii . The motors is a 2180 with duel 44 s. on a 2015 Vintage Spyder.
1) Are the Sebring street legal ?
2) Which exhaust would you buy ?

IF you cant get it in stainless, you may be able to get it ceramic coated. This is a nice finish with plenty of durability.

Mine is 4-1 but was custom fabricated. I think its similar in volume to the 4-2-1 type.

Is this a yes for the Sebring Exhaust ?
If you wrapped it in fiberglass may be it will last longer ?
