Fog/driving lights

Postby albaran » Mon Mar 26, 2018 7:35 am

It has been a long winter so I decided to add fog/driving lights to the Spyder. I noticed that in many of the historical photos that Spyders had driving lights for the endurance races that went through the night. Some races required yellow lights depending on what class you were in so that you could tell if a faster class was coming up on you, you could let him pass. If the lights were the same color as yours, you would keep racing.
The lights are mounted in the brake cooling recesses so if I wanted to remove them, there wouldn't be any holes visible.

I have a four position headlight switch that has the last position as high beam. I disconnected the front parking lights (they worked half the time any way) and wired the fog lights to them.

Al, did you drill the holes up into the ducts? I like the lights, nice job!

What lights did you use? They could come in handy at night.

I drilled holes in the top of the brake ducts and made a mounting bock that fits in there. These lights normally mount at the bottom but I drilled a hole in the back of light and ran a 3/8 bolt into the block. A second hole was drilled for the wires. The lights are available on a few sights ( https://www.summitracing.com/parts/upd- ... gI1A_D_BwE ) but I got mine through Amazon.

Here is a picture with the light bulbs turned off. I am using them in lieu of the front parking lights but you could replace the 35w H3 bulbs they come with a higher wattage and wire them as a separate circuit.

I've always loved fog/driving lights. Do you have shot of the car in the driveway, 3/4 front view, frontal?

I haven't pulled it out of the garage because of the weather. As soon as I get a warm day, I will post some more pictures.

Weather broke here in the Northeast so I was able to take the car to a show. Here is another picture of the lights.
