B and M Enterprises (GP Spyders) - Mindengine Porsche RSK

Postby NealB » Sun Jun 10, 2018 11:46 am

I'm trying to obtain information & photos on B and M Enterprises (GP spyders bodies) Midengine tube chassis for Porsche 718 RSK car. Barry (or Barrie) Martin (Calif.) designed and built about 3 cars with a tubular midengine chassis. His car was featured in Kit Car magazine ( Issues: March 1985 - car description & July 1985 - road test with 2 other cars [356 & 550]). Other cars by B&M were on modified VW beetle frame or kits. There was a 6 page brochurs available by B and M Enterprises on these RSK car. Maybe some members may have one in their records.
Thank you for your help!

Neal,
Do you have a GP Spyder body that you are wanting to fit over a mid engine/tube chassis?

RS-60,
I'm trying to find photos on Barry Martin's tube mid engine frame. Also, the 6 page brochure that B and M Enterprises published is hard to find. After seeing the Kit Car 1985 articles, I thought I could build a tube midengine frame from photos. I have a few sources for 718 RSK bodies. Is your car a B and M model?
Thank you!

Sorry Neal, never heard of B and m Enterprises or the brochure you mention. Can you scan this 1985 Kit Car article to see if it jogs anyone's memory?

Mine is a M&W 550. There are a few photos of the chassis if you search here or look at the website I put a link to above.

Like Mark was asking, do you have a body to fit on the chassis?

I'll have to read these closer, but Yikes 80+mph off camber spinouts. I'd definitely have to change my shorts on one of those. I also noticed they were running 28 and 30 psi in their tires.

Going sideways at 60 was a pretty eye-opening experience.....

I did recently go on a track with the Spyder. 25F and 28R worked very nicely.

NealB --
I'm back in circulation again. I downloaded and printed the Kit Car articles; fun reading and perspective of 30-something years ago.

Back to your original question about a space frame chassis for a GP Spyder 718 body (or clone). Maybe I can help:

NealB -- But if you want a chassis that is a close reproduction of the "real thing", then you should be talking to Paul Foreman. He might have one on-the-shelf:

You can find Paul here: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1276
