If you have 12' of height the doors don't matter. Modify the track so it goes as high as you can and use a side mounted direct coupled door actuator. I have 12' height as well and thats how mine is set up. I can even work on my car with the lift at full height and have the door open.

If you go the garage forum you will see that the Liftmaster 8500 is the motor of choice for people installing lifts. I have had mine for over 4 years and it has operated flawlessly.

Excellent info. I have some work to do, as currently I have extension springs on my door too. So I need to convert to torsion springs at the same time I do the high lift track... that'll set me up for the liftmaster, although i'm thinking I can live with a manual door initially (especially over the winter), since I won't be opening that door much!

The "to do" list just keeps getting longer!
