Beck/Chamonix won't go into Reverse Gear

Postby Larry Jowdy » Sun Nov 19, 2006 7:17 pm

Most Beck/Chamonix cars have a spare tire rack with a tire mounted. If the tire isn't installed correctly, it will keep the linkage from finding Reverse. Remove the spare and try putting the transaxle in Reverse. If it goes, re-install the spare correctly.

If the car still won't go into reverse then you have linkage problems. check all of the joints and the set screw. Sometimes the set screw on the transaxles shift rod comes loose. There is an indent in that rod and the set screw must be fully seated in that indent for everything to work correctly.

Other area's of concern can be the bushing under the right side of the engine. Clean with Brake Clean then use some white lithium spray grease. While you're at it, clean and lubricate all of the linkage moving parts
