Licensing a pre-owned Spyder in California

Postby MMcGuire » Thu Jan 29, 2015 9:17 am

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and am very close to making a purchase on a pre-owned Beck Spyder. This car currently resides in Miami, FL. I live in Los Angeles CA. I've read several helpful posts on how to go through the SB100 process, but these all appear to be for brand new Spyders and a condition of getting the SB100 is that you "built" the car yourself. Has anyone in CA purchased a used Spyder from out of state and been able to get it licensed here in CA? If so, could you please share the process? Thanks!

Thanks. Great read. I'm checking with broker to see if they have the papers for body/chassis, engine and gear box. It appears getting the SB100 without that can be challenging. Below is a link to the car I'm considering. All I out appreciated.

Nice looking car, you'll love the Subaru engine. I have a 300 HP Turbo Subaru engine in my Sand Rail and it's performance is flawless

Good to know. Thanks! Anything I should be looking for, in your opinion, when I go to check the car out?

Just reaching out as it's July and I'm starting to register a 2004 Beck in Northern California from Nevada...am I going to have to wait until January to drive the car. Ouch.

I'd try contacting DMV and find out if they have any SB100's left. Last year they were still issuing them in July.
