Received my Barber Pole Vinyl from SMS today, six months after ordering. Looks good. Now we'll see if my upholsterer can do the seats in less time than it took to get the material delivered.

meanwhile: blog update. The windshield's in, and the wiring is coing along.

Work continues. We're getting into final pre-assembly now, smoothing the body and paint.

Spent a couple hours last night putting in my home-made, sort-of authentic-looking pedal set.

I'm kinda proud of the way these turned out.

If you know what Spyder pedals are supposed to look like, but you are not a concourse judge specializing in '50s Porsches and you don't happen to work at the Spyder Factory, I think you'll fall for 'em.

Still, on the scale of "is this worth doing on my car" I'm gonna say, for 99.9 percent of everyone who owns or looks at one of these, no.

Finished off the faux oil lines and the straps that hold them to the frame tubes. Image

I like the idea of a floor access panel to get at the pedals and cylinders from both sides.

Got the fuel pumps in last night: Autopulses in front, with rubber hoses spit and clamped to the real fuel lines, which run into the box behind the Autopulses and therein feed a Carter rotary pump and filter. There's also a fuel shutoff valve sticking up through the top of the box, obscured by the inky shadows.

You've gotta get right on top of this rig to see it ain't real.

Update on the Spyder. The wires are in, the seats are back from the upholstery shop, and the wipers are still giving me fits.

I put the wipers on just to get the car registered. I tried different types of arms and blades but none of them worked or looked right. I ended up cutting the hubs off a set of arms and painted them body color to cover the splines. Car was never designed to have wipers anyway.

Yeah I know. But some of the earliest ones came with wipers and, dammit, I want this car to be at least OK to drive in the rain.

When I started the build I had no idea what a PITA fulfilling that simple goal might me. I haven't even started on the top yet. . . .

I took the wipers off my Vintage Spyder. They never worked that well, were ugly and unnecessary. RainX is more effective.

There are pictures of factory race cars with wipers on both the inside and outside of the windscreen.
Having had experience of driving in the rain without a roof I can fully understand the need for such a setup!

RainX both inside and outside. I’ve had this experience too.

My wipers work just fine. 2 speeds and park. You need 2 of the same arms and need to bend the passenger side a little. Short Bug blades. I got the ones with the aluminum nut to secure to the hub. Painted all of it including nuts with hammertone.

I keep a towel in the door for occasionally wiping the inside of the screen.
