Car came back from paint today. Here's that story: https://alongcameaspyder.wordpress.com/2019/04/13/paint-is-done/

Getting pretty stoked at this point.

Remade part of my shift linkage this week before pulling the transaxle and bolting it to the engine.

Engine is in the car.

This was a little complicated.

Progressing slowly.

Here's a blog post from the other day: https://alongcameaspyder.wordpress.com/2019/05/31/update-still-not-done/

The sway bar project is coming in for a landing. Then it's back to the wiring chores for a day or two, and then to the Subaru MG head gaskets.

It's been over two years, but the finish line is in sight. Are you sure you are going to be able to part with it when you are done?
If you are still planning on making the top, I can't wait to see that process.

Man, I don't even know about the top. I keep telling myself I'm not gonna do stuff and then I get an idea and think "well this should be easy & fun" and 50 hours later I'm still hip deep in the thing & etc. and so on.

Right now it's going together with the plexi screen and no top. I still need to "hem" the tonneau. But, yeah, I've eyed the original top frame a little more than is healthy. No drawings or CAD yet...

Gonna part with it unless my Subaru-powered MG TD is somehow permanently broken.

Definitely gonna take a few hundred miles to sort it though—I owe that to the eventual owner!

Hmmm... the MG vs spyder. I know which one I would pick. You just need to make another spyder with subie power!

I made a half tonneau cover a wile back viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16774&p=149781&hilit=tonneau#p149781
I used a Sewing Machine Single Fold Tape Binder Binding Attachment With Swing Bracket and it worked great. Surprisingly easy to use.

Really nice job on that. My wife's sewing machine cannot handle this material. I just try making a lot of stuff but I'm out of my depth with the tonneau and top.

The frunk and fuel tank are very close to done now.

Been a minute since I updated this thread so for those following along: I put oil in the crank case last night.

I'm into final assembly now, with a few more wires to sort and then start the engine.

Last blog post here: https://alongcameaspyder.wordpress.com/2019/08/25/crawling-toward-the-finish-line/
but I've moved on from that; the exhaust is all but finished.

Final assembly now. A lot of little things need adjustment.

We'll start with the shifter.

You have done an amazing amount of work to this car and it looks great! The adjustments and small changes can be frustrating, but you'll get them done. Personally I can't wait to see the final product!

Thanks, Ed! Got the shifter dialed in this morning. All the gears seem to work. Now on to the e-brake!

Cable shifters are soooo much easier than the Jamar type linkage.
