Kind of reminds me of "me" back in the 70's. I had a part time business rebuilding VW engines. Back then, I'd remove 3 engines on Saturday/Sunday then take them apart, Monday afternoon I'd send the cases out for machine work, get them back on Wednesday and Thurs and Friday evenings I would rebuild all three then on Saturday and Sunday I'd install those engines, remove 3 more and start over.

Looks like fun. If I knew I could have done it in 6 minutes, I would have built my own. :)

I have thought about trying it, but engine kits like CBPerfs are in the $4k-$5.5K range. That is a fair amount of money to experiment with. Maybe when mine needs rebuilt I might give it a try.

Well…unless you have a rod through the case…a simple measure and re-build consisting of:

Sleeving the lifter bores / consider new lifters
Check/reconditioning the rod bushings
Align honing the case
Polishing the crank and changing all bearings
Reconditioning the cylinder heads
New Cylinders and pistons
Cam Drive/distributor gear replacement
Degreeing Cam…replace if out-of-spec

Out-of-pocket should be less than $ 1000, not including your labor :)
