It's official....I'm now a 550 owner!

Postby RandyM » Sun Dec 03, 2017 4:08 pm

Well, after years of waiting and searching I finally made a deal on a 550. Sadly, it will take 10-15 days to get it shipped to TN.

I found a really nice Vintage Spyder with a lot of the goodies. Banjo wheel, 5 wide, 2276 flat four engine, German silver paint, only 7k miles, Freeway Flyer 4 speed, leather interior, push button start and the plexi windscreen.

I know, I know it didn't happen without pictures so heres a few from the seller. I'll throw up some more when it gets to TN.

My wife said at least she doesn't have to get me a Christmas present.

Thanks to everyone on this wonderful forum for all the help and advice, now I'm sure i'll be asking a lot more questions.......

PS....If anyone knows this car give me a shout. It was a 2008-2009 build I believe.

Also any additional info Good or Bad that you see or know the Vintage may have give me a heads up please.

Gorgeous car! Well done. I see it's got the right-looking gauge package. A well-made 2276 should top 160 horses, which is really quite a lot in a car like that.

Please to post more pics when it arrives. Congrats!

fwiw, I think the Vintage frames are stiffer than the Beck. Vintage cars have more triangulation, more of a space frame (like the 550A), a hoop under the dash, etc. They aren't as true-to-the-originals but not one person in a thousand knows that. The coil-over suspension is also easier to adjust than the original torsion bar setup. If I were building one to race I'd probably start with a Vintage.

If you're looking for information regarding that specific vehicle, it may help if you post where the car owner lives and if know, the owners name. It's a small community and possibly one of our members has information.

No, my better half Ann is on a short work assignment about 20 minutes in Oakridge from Knoxville. Would love to see you car I'll be there on the 20th and should have time while Ann is working on the 21st, 27th or the 28th if we can link up that would be cool.

FYI, Oakridge played a vital role in the development of the atomic bomb during WWII. Highly classified area at the time.
