Bosch wires question

Postby Drummerskey » Sun Oct 30, 2016 1:58 pm

Need help!! So, have Bosch plug wires, type 3 I believe with brown snap connector. While checking my plugs, the wire itself pulled free of the brown connector. Where the wire connects, there is a barbed post and no crimp. I checked the other wires and they all pulled off. This doesn't seem normal to me though. I put them all back on the barbed post and they stay but can pull them off if I pulled hard enough.. .....this normal or do I need new plug wires?

Those wires were standard on VW Beetles for pretty much the entire production of the car. I'd change wires as those brown Bakelite plug ends have resistors in them to suppress radio noise and sometimes the resistor fails.

Which wires would you suggest? I am going to buy new ones.

Just a decent set of wires NON OEM Available from various VW or dunebuggy shops Most of the Bosch wires with the screw on bakelite plugs don't require the cap on the top threaded post of the sparkplug. Most aftermarket sparkplugs do require that cap so make sure your wire kit has the screw on tops or buy some from an auto parts store.

See, i think this is an area where spending 55 dollars instead of 40 is worth it. I have the 8mm Pertronix wires that I custom cut to length so they fit perfectly. There isn't a standard "set" of plug wires you can by, so they never fit right unless you custom cut them to length.
