I have a Vintage and run 16" aluminum alloy wheels with 4.5" BS. The rears are 6" with 205/55/16 and the fronts are 5" with 175/55/16. Fit is perfect, no rubbing or contact of any sort.

On my old car, CSP brakes fit fine with the 4.5" rims that Greg sent with it. The centers were moved a little from whatever stock backspace was.

When I changed to the Airkewld 4 piston brakes, this brought them out further. I was able to get another 3/8" backspacing by moving the centers myself. It was a real pain in the ass. Line it up, 4 tack welds, install on balance machine and check runout. Grind tacks, move, measure, try again. I did it, but what a pain.

FYI, I have over 40,000 HARD miles, lots of autocross and DE time on 4.5" wheels with 185/65 tires. They ain't coming off, trust me. And yes, I understand a minimum 5.0" is recommended.

New car has same Airkewld brakes all around(with single piston e-brake rear caliper) but the 2" narrowed beam makes a perfect fit with the Vintage 190 aluminum wheels. Thanks Greg!

I am very happy with the performance of these brakes. I can't seem to induce fade, which is a VERY good thing!

I am sure that Greg will put a narrowed beam in a new car, but it would be pretty tough to do in an existing car.

Rudy, that sounds like a sweet setup.

Aaaah... but they don’t have to “come-off”…they simply roll on the rim and negatively affect your turn-in…and transitions… particularly in tight turns…this is simply fact…not opinion !

Go check what Carroll Smith says !

It's OK, I like it when it negatively affects my turn-in. Alternative facts!

Danny, did you get a new car /550? You refer to the old car and new car. Did you sell the white one and build a new one? I only remember the white one (painted a few years ago) with the 2165 engine. Hope your seeing decent weather there. I've never seen a summer like this. Rains almost everyday and still cold. Had a fire last night to warm up the house! Crazy, normally its so hot and humid that you can't sit outside.

Rudy your 175/55/16 will be nearly an inch shorter (22.6mm) and an 10mm skinnier than the 185/65/15 tires, which would probably be enough so mine wouldn't rub. The builders may have fixed the issue on newer versions too. https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?ti ... -175-55r16

What wheels are you running?

Hi Ed, I ordered 5" wide for the front and 6" wide for the back, both 16" and have a 4.5" BS. They are from here http://www.alloyreplicas.com/model-a/ nice and light too.
I think you have a Beck if I remember right. Just wondering if the inner well clearances are the same as with a Vintage.

Rudy nice wheels! I'd like those in full silver. I don't know the answer to the clearance question.

The pic is fresh cut aluminum. As per the original wheels on a 550 they will fade as they oxidize and look and be authentic.

I wonder if most people buy the polished aluminum wheel instead of the silver powder coated aluminum wheel that Greg at VS sells. I like all 3 looks Polished, powder coated and the authentic looking oxidized look.

Going back to the front end width...Mr. Camper and his road racing (SCCA) Karmann Ghia (at over 2000 lbs) successfully used the standard KG front disc brake set-up...which is quite a bit narrower than the much heavier Wilwood set-up [8D]

I think Greg sells mostly powdercoat. That is what Lenny and I bought. I like all three as well. I wouldn't want to keep the polished ones shiny though. Powdercoat washes up easily.
