PBS Shifter Installation

Postby Tony46 » Thu Sep 07, 2017 2:02 pm

Can anyone help with explaining how the shift rails work on a Type 1 transmission, and advise which rail is which.
I am guessing from the PBS instructions that the bottom rail would be reverse? I am hoping that a good explanation on how the rails shift (direction) and what gear it affects, would assist in the installation of this shifter.

Tony, follow the instructions. You only trim the bottom fork which is reverse. Lay a straightedge from the edge of the 3-4 fork to the bolt like it says. Scribe a line. It doesn't take much. If you take too much off, you won't be able get into reverse.
Top fork is 3-4
Middle is 1-2
Bottom reverse.
Pull for R-2-4, push for 1-3.
The reverse lockout spring is very strong

Thanks Danny
I completed the install on Sunday. I tend to overthink things fearing that I will mess it up. The grind went fine, but I managed to mess up an eye when a metal particle bypassed my safety goggles. Dr says I'll be fine in 5 days...I'm just glad I didn't mess up the shift forks. [-X
