cogito, I take pretty big exception with your analogy. I've been a copywriter for more than 25 years, and I also admire the writing of William Safire. How would you know that being an advertising copywriter is the \"yin\" to Safire's \"yang\"? Have you ever actually BEEN a copywriter? Do you have any idea at all what kind of talent and creativity is involved in being a successful copywriter?

Do you realize that William Safire was, in fact, an advertising copywriter and public relations executive at one point in his career? At least, by some miracle, you do realize that he was a writer. I'm sure Darcie wouldn't know the difference between William Safire and William Shatner.

Are you even remotely familiar with David Ogilvy, Bill Bernbach, and George Lois? Did you realize that the late, great automotive journalist David E. Davis was, in fact, once employed as a lowly advertising copywriter?

I probably should have realized the level of your ignorance when you stated that the last iteration of the MR2 was derived from the Celica platform. The ZZW30 iteration of the MR2, WHICH FORMED THE BASIS FOR THE LOTUS ELISE AND EXIGE, was completely unrelated to the Celica. For that matter, a Toyota MR2 and a Lotus Elise/Exige have a lot more in common with each other than an MR2 and a Celica.

If you're going to pontificate, then make sure that you're at least armed with a few facts.

I can only add that I watched an MR2 spin off on a roundabout in the rear view mirror of my heavily tweaked 1996 (1100cc!) Fiat Cinquecento, when the driver couldn't keep up with it!!! ;)

cinqster, your logic is flawed.

Even a Formula 1 racecar, when driven by a buffoon, will handle like a piece of crap.

Did you ever stop and think that it may have been driver error that caused the spinout and not something inherently wrong with the car? I'm sure that Michael Schumaker can drive a Fiat 500 a lot better than I can, but he's never going to make a Fiat 500 a better-handling car than a Toyota MR2, as long as he's the driver of both vehicles.

Yamabice -- you seem to have taken my analogy very personally. Perhaps it struck too close to home, and you chose, quite predictably, based on your history on this site, to sublimate your feelings of inadequacy with another ad hominem attack on me. You even managed in your message to throw an insult toward Darcie. Not very gentlemenly, but not really a surprise either, is it?

I am not in the habit of discussing my background on what is supposed to be a fun site for Spyder enthusiasts, but in response to your question, ironically I did, in fact, work for an advertising and public relations agency writing copy (among other things) early in my career, before I entered the Aerospace field and earned a law degree, eventually running Business Affairs for one of the largest engineering and construction companies in the world. I would be happy to match the breadth and scope of my diverse reading and life experiences with yours, but contests such as those are fruitless, and quite boring. I prefer to let the content, tone and puerile flailings of your message speak for themselves.

Larry, do I feel a lock coming on?

Lock it. Dramab itch says things on the interweb that I am positive that he wouldn't say to Darcie knowing I was in the room. Why doesn't he just drive the 6 and a half hours to Carlisle this weekend and tell her that? I am calling that an internet commando move on his part. Neither Darcie and I may not have gone to a prominent university and not as clever with words but we did take offense to that post that the trouble maker posted. Copywriter for 25 years … for what, a blog? At least William Safire had the sense to move on.

gixxerblade -- I am fairly new to this site, and I have not met you or Darcie (though I would enjoy doing so sometime), but I too was really put off by Yamabice's uncalled for shot at her (I geuss he did not like that she agreed with my comments). Let him spew his venom on me -- it only reflects on him -- if he gets off on that, but I say leave other good folks out of it.

By the way, I did not go such prominent universities either -- I was from a working class family and put myself through school, much of it at night -- and it really is not about that anyway. Sites such as this are for exchanging information and having fun. To me, a little controversy is actually good, but it should never be personal.

Take care, Peter

Peter – I don't mind a little ribbing myself but this guy seems to get personal. Larry is too nice a guy to actually ban this guy so I guess we'll have to deal with his rudeness for the foreseeable future. If you knew Darcie you would understand that she is actually a fun loving person.

Well, I will meet you in a few days, Stephen, and plan to have a drink or two with you and your wife. Quite looking forward to it as a matter of fact. I have never met Larry, but I have spoken on the phone with him, and yes, he is a very knowledgeable and personable man.

Take care all, and see some of you soon!

Let's get a couple of things straight here:

cogito, after Larry already declared that \"enough was enough\" on the Lotus vs. MR2 debate, you decided to stir the pot a little more and chime in with your own thinly veiled attack on me.

Why would you make an out-of-the-blue analogy about advertising copywriters vs. \"real writers\" like William Safire? OH WAIT, I KNOW! It's because my profile lists that I'm an advertising copywriter, and you decided that you needed to insult me in two distinct ways. And, if you deny it, then you are a much bigger a-hole than I thought.

Steve, your wife has been on me for pretty much as long as I've posted on this site. She has a very sneaky, passive-aggressive way of complimenting anyone who ever criticizes me, and she always manages to be the third man in on any argument that I am a part of--and she ALWAYS sides with the other person. Look at her posts, and you'll see the pattern. It's actually pretty laughable that she's still never gotten over my James Dean comment from so long ago.

And, as for this \"blog\" that you think I write for, I know that you have your own blog so I would think you'd know the difference. SuperBike Planet is absolutely not a blog. It's one of the world's leading online news sources for professional motorcycle roadracing. But, that's not my job. As my profile states, and as cogito noted, I'm an advertising copywriter, and that has nothing to do with Superbike Planet. You know, for all your criticism of me and of Soup, it's odd to me that you have a link to the site from your own blog. Apparently, you must like something that we're doing.

Yes, it should never be personal, Peter.

Like criticizing someone's occupation. An occupation that you wouldn't know that I have unless you read it on my profile. I didn't include my occupation in my profile just so people like you can personally attack me...or for people like Darcie to pile on like the third dog into a fight.

Maybe you ought to take a good look at yourself and admit you made a mistake. Both of you.

Keep up the attacks, loser. Paranoid much? Your “James Dean comment,” she absolutely did take personal because it was a personal attack, wasn't it? Don't deny it, jack wad. You didn't like the status quo, so you thought you'd start trouble. Keep stirring the pot, creep.
Has she personally attacked you since Mr. Jowdy asked the both of you to pipe down? Is saying LOL and quoting something someone has said too much for your feelings, weirdo, that you have to attack her? Are these small quips hurting your feelings?

Now for Soup; Dean can be entertaining though sometimes inaccurate and Ohlins is wacky, and the photos are, most of the time first rate, that's the reason I read that Soup. Heck, I even had a Soup Army sticker gracing my truck till it fell off and still have some copies of the now defunct American Roadracer somewhere. Of course I go to Crash, RRW, and others. I just wish that more club racing was covered in Soup.

I've got a bunch of Soup stickers. If you want me to send you some, just let me know.

Soup doesn't cover ANY club racing. RRW covers LRRS and some other clubs, but only if someone from those clubs sends them reports. You've got a blog. Why don't you do your own club reports and send them to John Ulrich? He's great about running pretty much every press release he gets.

Dean's inaccuracies may only be based on your perspective. He gets a lot more right than you might think.

Let me know if you want those stickers.

Hey, wait a minute....did you call me a \"loser\", a \"jack wad\" and a...a CREEP?

Darcie, what do you think?

OK,,, Let's stop..... But first, each of you needs to read the sentence below the Forum titled \"Off Topic\" For those of you that don't have an idea of what I'm refering to, then HERE IT IS IN BLACK AND WHITE:

Don your flame-proof suit and come on in! IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT THEN GET OUT!!!! Post anything you wish within reason that is \"off-topic\" from a Spyder.

The \"within reason\" statement refers to porno, conversations about Walt Disney and a myraid of other topics (Walt Disney????)

PLEASE GO TO THE FORUM TITLE PAGE and read the above statement.

I've been asked to ban someone but, in all fairness and since this is the \"OFF TOPIC\" Forum and there's a \"catch phrase\" under the title (see above in bold letters) If I banned 1 person, then I'd have to ban (4) users.

Is that what you want??
